Last week I declared that spring had arrived in Portland. It has snowed on four of the last seven days, so clearly I don't know the difference between winter and spring. We still went for a few walks despite the weather.
I can't help taking a picture of this shrub every year. I reminds me of a traditional Japanese watercolor. Does anyone know what it is? I really like it. It has winter interest because of the color and texture of the scraggily branches. In early spring the coral blossoms pop. I was hoping to get a picture before the leaves came out, because that's when this plant is the prettiest. There are fewer blossoms than usual this year, and the leaves are a bit early.
I'm interested in adding one of these shrubs between our porch and the driveway, so seriously...if you know what it is please let me know!
I have one in my back yard but I don't know what it is either!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know on fb in case you don't get back to this post.
DeleteIt's a Flowering Quince. There are some just above our fence that I love.
ReplyDeletep.s. This is Jess, I guess I don't have an online profile, so I'm anonymous.
Ah-ha! Thanks Jess. I looked up the plant info, and it will get too big for the space I was thinking. I'll have to figure out if I've got space somewhere in my yard or not.
DeleteIt's lovely! I wonder if it would grow here in Ontario. Off I go to check!
ReplyDeleteI think it would probably grow there and you surely have space!
DeleteWhat a nice bush/tree! It reminds me of my double flowering plum (flower shape). I can't wait to hit the garden centres this year and get some new plants.:)
ReplyDeleteI looked up the double flowering plum. Very pretty but also too big for the space I was hoping to fill. Maybe that's a good thing since I was hoping only to buy veggie starts this year (spent a bunch on the yard last year).
DeleteI've never seen one of those. What a beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty, but it only looks like this in the spring. Otherwise, it's just a basic green shrub until the leaves drop in the fall.
